the neighborhood is on a downward spiral, and by studying some of the mental charts and graphs that i’ve just made up… it’s all because of the AMRDs epidemic, or “acquired-mr-rogers-deficiency” for the uninitiated.
i fear for the generations to come. there’s no-one around in the daily media to teach them the important things, such as: there’s no need to fear the bathtub, as it’s a physical impossibility to be sucked down the drain. how to properly vent anger and frustration. how to share. to take our time. how to just sit back in silent content, and appreciate things.
mr. rogers embedded in many of us, an early appreciation in the arts. he taught us to question everything, and to treat others in a way we’d like reflected upon ourselves. he was always willing to try something new, even if he wasn’t always very good at it… because he knew, and made sure we did, that with the right attitude and a lot of practice the seemingly-impossible is possible.
in summary: this is a plea for PBS to re-air “mr. rogers’ neighborhood”.
